Ahhh Christmas. What could be more festive than some beery bubbles washing over the voice box. We are a little partial to beer; beer for thirst, beer for food, beer for putting up with relatives - so useful. So much so that we want to know your best use for beer. Tell us something we don't know and be in the running to win 2 cases of Williams Pale Ale organic beery goodness for your Christmas Day feast thanks to our friends at Debortoli.
My dad is severely allergic to bees, and one day at a picnic we were freaking out cos there were heaps buzzing around. My crazy uncle started ranting that beer is a bee repellent, and put his half-empty beer can under the bush. We all laughed at him for wasting perfectly good beer, but lo and behold, the bees soon dispersed! I wouldn't recommend using something as tasty as William's though...it's better off being enjoyed by people rather than scaring bees!
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather worked in a brewery and often arrived home with bottles of beer. He didn't drink so my mum and her sisters used it for their hair! She swears it made their hair shiny. I just wonder about the beer smell-did it attract or repel the boys ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy father would say that beer cures stress.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would say that beer cures a hangover.
But I think the best cure that beer can be used for is hemorrhoids. The antioxidants in barley, which is used to make beer, are great for hemorrhoids.
Since my husband has had days where he's been suffering from all three at the same time, he swears by his beer!
Although he doesn't suffer from toe fungus…yet, I'm sure he'd be happy to know that he can cure toe fungus by soaking his feet in a mix of beer, vinegar and acidophilus. It's probably just as well he doesn't as I'm not sure if he could bring himself to soak his feet in his favourite beer!
Beer makes the best batter of all for fish and chips, can't beat it.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend always leave a small amount of beer at the bottom of every bottle he drinks. A great way to use this leftover beer is in fertilising the garden. The yeast and other extracts are actually really good for plants so I just tip them out onto the garden. No more smelly beer to pour down the sink!
ReplyDeleteI do love to make beer bread and to wash my hair with beer soap, but I think the coolest thing to do with beer is make beer icipoles!
ReplyDeleteOh, and this: there was a story recently about British police arresting fugitives after sending them notices they'd won free beer. Very handy stuff indeed.
ReplyDeleteMy grandad always left a small amount of beer in the bottle to go flat and nana used it as a furniture polish. It does work pretty good :)
ReplyDeleteThe best beer... that sobering and refreshing "roadie" just before calling it quits for the night to wash away the taste of far too much wine or rum!
